Carrone Baptist Church History
Carrone Baptist Church was organized in 1885 by Rev. Willis Duval of Virginia. It was first known as the Second Baptist Church of the East End. The church reorganized in March 1886 and changed the name to the Siloam Baptist Church. In 1890 a new frame was erected on Carron Street in East Liberty and the name was changed to Carron Street Baptist Church in 1891.
Following the resignation of Rev. Duvall in 1894, three ministers, Rev W.R Wilson, Rev J. H. Thompson and Rev H. Moore served for brief periods to 1900 when Rev. Rodney C. Fox of Virginia began his pastorate fir 19 years. During this period, a new brick structure replaced the old frame.
Dr. W.H.R Powell served from 1920 to 1923, Dr. C.T. Murray 1924 to 1929 and Dr. C.F. Jenkins 1931 to 1936. From 1938 to 1985, Dr. Porter W. Phillips was the 9th pastor. In 1957, the church moved from Carron Street to its present location and changed the name from Carron to Carrone. Dr. Phillips retired in 1985 after forty-seven years of faithful service.
Rev Dr. Gary E. Brandon began his pastorate in April of 1988 and served for 13 years. In September of 2002, the call was extended to Rev Kenneth E. Johnson who was the 11th pastor and served for 7 years.
On January 27, 2013, Rev. Alonzo Murphy, Jr. became the 12th pastor of Carrone Baptist Church. During his pastorate the church has increased in membership and is growing spiritually. Pastor Murphy has implemented a number if ministries that included a Music Ministry, Youth Ministry, The Spiritual Dove Dance Ministry, Rejoicing on The Lawn Community Day, Carrone Cares Clothing Closet, Personal Purses Outreach for Women Shelters, Fresh Start Ministry and Carrone's Children Church.
Under Pastor Murphy's leadership the church is learning to build a true relationship with God in order to have a positive and loving relationship with each other in life. It is through a true relationship with God and a positive and loving relationship with one another that we say at "Carrone Baptist Church", we are Building and Growing Together."
